Abstract

Fire Safety Engineering is a scientific

approach to fire phenomena which

permits the designer the possibility of

a performance based design that will

allow rational, economic and safe so

lutions in buildings and infrastructu

res.

Particularly in buildings the best

methodology involves the simultane

ous use of theoretical numerical si

mulations, and experimental fire

tests.

Tecnalia-Construcción solves the

problem of real fire destructive tests

with a unique development of a met

hodology that includes a equipment

for the generation of clean hot smoke

that is capable of generating hot

smoke which behaves as real fire

smoke, but in a non destructive way,

and with no need of final cleaning of

the building interiors.

This global theoretical-experimen

tal approach has been successfully

used in two particular cases that are

assessed in the text: the Bilbao Exhi

bition Centre parking space, and the

Zubiarte commercial centre.
