Abstract
Actually, sustainability and innovation are key
aspects of businesses´ competitiveness. Knowing
which are the aspects that influence the
sustainable orientation when innovating, allow
firms to take more efficient decisions, specially
those involving R&D funds. The aim of this work
is to empirically establish the environmental
orientation of the ceramic industry determinants.
In this paper, data retrieved from the PITEC
(Spanish Innovation Panel) from 34 firms are
modeled using the structural equation technique
(EQS). Results show that among the different
innovative typologies, process innovation is
an important factor influencing firms´ eco
innovative orientation. Moreover, we found out
a positive relationship between eco- innovation
activity and marked information sources
coming from suppliers, clients, competitors and
external organizations. Finally, we verify that
the orientation towards product-innovation
has no, significant influence, on companies’
environmental orientation when innovating,
which has important managerial implication.
