Dynamic turning is a recent technology that allows inserts
with different cutting edges to be used and the side cutting
edge angle to be modified by controlled spindle rotation and
synchronised variation of the cutting parameters. This makes
it possible to eliminate downtime by reducing tool changes.
Chip breaking is a relevant fact in the turning of aeronautical
parts, as it allows a higher heat dissipation performance when
working with heat-resistant superalloys, materials that degrade
inserts rapidly. An initial study has been carried out, using
different fixed side cutting edge angles, to test the chipbreaker
performance of an experimental dynamic turning insert in
order to adapt its design to the machining of aeronautical
components, obtaining that, although the cutting performance
is good, the chipbreaker does not perform correctly in finishing
conditions, and therefore it must be redesigned by reducing its
distance to the cutting edge.
