WATER CLOCK OR CLEPSYDRA CONSTRUCTION

Abstract

It is being built at the Visitor Reception Centre at Dofiana National Park Water clocks were used in the Ancient World and as late as the 17th century, when they were replaced by mechanical timepieces. They were a complement to sundials, for use at night and during long cloudy periods. This water clock was designed and built using only the knowledge found in the ancient Museum of Alexandria. Precision is not a feature of clepsydras. This representative example is intended as an educational item, with a plain, austere, appearance.
