GESTIÓN DE CÁLCULOS: LA INGENIERÍA EFICIENTE
Abstract
During the last decades, the calcula
tion process has been improved
enormously thanks to the use of spe
cialized software allowing engineers
interact with calculations in a com
pletely analogous format to an engi
neering report and at the same time
managing the coherence of the units.
These tools have increased substan
tially the individual productivity of the
engineers. But, usually, the programs
or resulting spreadsheets of the engi
neering work, habitually disperse th
rough all the organization and, often,
the calculations are repeated once
and again. In addition these calcula
tions can become inconsistent and
difficult or impossible to be found
when they are really needed, for
example, for the verification of a de
sign characteristic.
Now, the engineering processes
are on the edge of undergoing anot
her fundamental reform that will pro
vide substantial improvements in the
quality and productivity of enginee
ring processes. New tools are appea
ring allowing to capture, organize,
and manage the myriad of calcula
tions generated in the whole com
pany. These tools are going to impel
the use of the best practices in engi
neering, making much easier to ve
rify the exactitude of the calculations
and stimulate their reusability.
