Abstract

This paper is a summary of the exhaustive

electrostatic study of a three-phase conductors

configuration using the basis set of solutions

method and the surface charge method.

The electrostatic responses of several three

phase configurations, with different radius

and voltage settings, were studied. It was

confirmed that the “distance between

conductors/conductors radius” parameter (d/R) is

appropriate to describe their behaviours.

It has been proved that the product of maximum

field strength and the conductor radius remains

unchanged for constant d/R. An empirical

expression that relates this product to d/R has

also been found.

The limits of validity of the calculated values for

the maximum electric field, depending upon the

length of the conductors, have been established.

It has also been found that when the

distances between conductors are small, these

configurations are very stable against unbalance

of the phase voltages, but not of the line

voltages.
