Induction motors are the most widely used type of motor in industry. They are designed in single phase and three-phase versions. Many critical parameters are involved in the design of an induction motor, and each parameter has a separate impact on the motor design. One of the most important design parameters is the design of the stator and rotor slot geometries. In this study, motor design was carried out using 10 different optimization algorithms for slot geometries. Furthermore, iron losses and efficiency, which are indicators of motor performance, were optimized using slot geometry designs. Genetic Algorithm, Tabu Search Algorithm, Simulated Annealing Algorithm and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) methods and their versions were used for optimization. The objective function for optimization is to minimize iron losses and maximize efficiency by using stator and rotor slot dimensions for energy saving. The main motivation for choosing the WOA method in this study is that the method offers better convergence speed and solution accuracy for nonlinear problems such as induction motors. WOA and its versions were applied to this problem for the first time, and iron losses and efficiency were optimized. The results showed that WOA and its versions achieved more successful results compared to other optimization methods. As a result of optimization, iron losses decreased by 41.55%, leading to a 0.802% increase in the efficiency of the induction motor.
