THE INTEGRATION OF THE DELAYED COKING TECHNOLOGY IN AN OIL REFINERY

Abstract

The complexity of a major indus-trial project involves overcoming nu-

merous challenges. A brief descrip-tion of a project to adapt a refinery to

the market using the delayed coking technology is given. The best techni-

cal solutions will be applied to guar-antee efficiency, safety and minimal

environmental impact.

In this case, we must add to the own difficulties for the design and

implantation of the Project, the rest of existing facilities in the refinery that

demands the modification of several of them. Also we have had to conju-

gate the limited space available, with the maximum respect to the urban

and leisure surroundings, represent-ed by the existence in the neighbour-

hoods of a beach and other areas of high ecological value. It has been

considered high-priority to reach the maximum level of security, for which

has been used tools that allow having it in account in every phases of de-

sign, with special attention to the se-lection and formation of the person-

nel who will operate the unit.
