Abstract

In this communication, a model of in

dustrial park is presented as an adap

tation process to obtain a sustainable

economy, being the application of the

industrial ecology one of the main

strategies that supports this change.

The design and planning of an indus

trial park are a complicated process

due to the number of stakeholders

concerned and time taken because of

the own magnitude of the action: lo

cation selection and planning, physi

cal infrastructures and industrial faci

lities design, building design, cons

truction, operation, and management

systems and disassembling-decons

truction design. Environmental crite

ria throughout all the design steps

are fundamental to guarantee a long

lifespan operation and the coexisten

ce with surroundings in where the

park is located. The development to

wards a new model of industrial park

appears as an opportunity of sear

ching strategies and alternative solu

tions for the resources consumption

efficiency, negative environmental

impacts minimization and economic

benefit maximisation.
